Fun Tutorial

Students,

If you enjoyed what we did last week in Lesson 6 (creating a label for a bottle or can) then check out this tutorial for how to create a 3D textured spray can. It's a much more advanced and detailed process, but you might find it enjoyable.

Having trouble understanding how to combine typefaces? We will learn more about fonts and elements of typographical design soon. If you're feeling overwhelmed, this might help. Below is an example from this page:

Here is also a good article about typography that might help/interest you. It discusses many of the elements of typography we discussed as well as what are popular practices, techniques and fonts in the industry. Check it out if you want to learn more!

Speaking of typography, here is a link to a site with stellar examples of hand drawn typography. I like to draw and sketch, so seeing stuff like this is really cool. Here is an example below:

I look forward to seeing your label projects on your blogs as well as viewing your text effect tutorials you found online!

iPhone App for New Designers

So if you're feeling a little overwhelmed with today's lecture on file formats, color modes, resolutions and the battle between bitmap vs. vector...you may want to check out this iPhone App called PrintProof.

Click here. Check it out. While it does cost $1.99 (whoa, steep, I know!) it might be beneficial as a reminder for new designers. It features little check-lists for each project with descriptions of the different types of file extensions, color modes, reminders, etc. You may not understand what all this is yet, but you will!

I bought it so if you want to look at mine before you buy, just ask!

Also, I have some other iPhone Apps listed on the <<< left side of this blog. Check out my resources too!
